Former President Donald Trump has selected Ohio Senator JD Vance as his running mate for this year's election, according to a post by Trump on social media.

Vance - who once descrbied Trump as "America's Hitler - will now be vice president if Trump beats sitting president Joe Biden in November.

The announcement came as Trump joined the Republican conference to be confirmed as its official candidate, and a day after an attempt on his life.
