A 75-year-old woman has been charged with the alleged murder of her roommate at a retirement village in Port Kennedy, south of Perth.
Emergency services were called to the residence on Olivenza Crescent at 4:10am on Friday after receiving reports that an 88-year-old woman had died.
Police say the women were known to each other and shared a room for four days.
The accused woman is due to appear before the Northbridge Magistrates Court via video link today.
In a statement, Bethanie chief executive officer Roulé Jones said the death of the resident had "deeply affected" its community.
"Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the deceased," he said.
"Our staff responded quickly and professionally when the alarm was raised, and followed all Bethanie procedures.
"We wish to reassure the public that no Bethanie staff were involved in this incident. The safety, wellbeing, and care of our residents remain our highest priority."
Roulé said Bethanie was cooperating with the police investigation.
