David Johansen, the lead singer and last surviving original member of the seminal rock group the New York Dolls, has died.
He was 75, and revealed earlier this year he had cancer.
The New York Dolls, alongside the Velvet Underground, paved the way for punk and the cross-dressing glam rock of later bands.
But the group were not commercially successful, and only lasted a few years.
In a long solo career afterwards, Johansen also worked as an actor and as the extravagantly-pompadoured lounge lizard singer Buster Poindexter.
