Music venues are special places where emotions are stirred and memories made. There are cherished venues in towns and cities across New Zealand, but the landscape is constantly changing - old favourites close and new spaces pop up.
With the recent temporary ban on gigs at Greymouth's Barrytown Hall due to noise complaints; the upcoming closure of the Kings Arms in Auckland; and a number of other closures across the country in the last year or so, we thought it was time to re-visit some of New Zealand's gems.
In early 2015 we sent Dunedin musician Anthonie Tonnon around the country to visit some of our most beloved venues. A third of the spaces he visited are now closed.
