The Ice Shelf by Anne Kennedy audiobook

On the eve of flying to Antarctica to take up an arts fellowship, thirty-something Janice, recently separated, has a long night of remembrance, regret and realisation as she goes about the city looking for a friend to take care of her fridge while she’s away.

Janice has managed to lose touch with her group of Antarctica bound artists but has had no such luck with her beloved fridge.

Janice has shown dogged perseverance in dragging her burdensome fridge around Wellington but is still in search of a home for her cherished chiller.

Lesser souls would have given up but not Janice. She may have been rejected by her fellow writers, her ex-boyfriend, various publishers and drinking buddies, but all that rejection is merely fodder for her creativity, she is a woman on a mission and will never give up on finding a home for her cherished fridge.

Heroic polar treks are very much part of Antarctic lore, so it is perhaps fitting that Janice prepares for her trip to the 'great southern continent', by hauling her fridge, (single handed), from downtown Wellington all the way to Island Bay.
