Embedding Sustainability into RNZ’s Operations

At RNZ, we recognise our responsibility to operate a financially sustainable organisation, environmental sustainability, and social responsibility. We are committed to integrating sustainability into our operations and workplace culture, ensuring we meet our responsibility to our kaimahi, audiences, and the planet we share.

Sustainability in RNZ’s Operations

RNZ is actively working to reduce our environmental footprint and operate more sustainably. As part of this commitment, we have achieved Toitū carbonreduce certification, demonstrating our dedication to measuring, managing, and reducing our carbon emissions. Our key initiatives include:

  • Carbon reduction strategies, including energy efficiency measures, travel emissions reduction and transitioning our fleet away from fossil fueled vehicles.
  • Sustainable procurement, ensuring ethical sourcing and responsible resource management.
  • Zero waste goals, promoting waste minimisation, recycling, and responsible disposal practices.

Fostering a Sustainable and Inclusive Workplace

Sustainability is also about social responsibility. RNZ is committed to:

  • Fair and ethical employment, including our commitment to the Living Wage.
  • Reducing the gender pay gap and increasing representation of ethnic and minority groups.
  • Creating opportunities for staff engagement in sustainability initiatives and workplace collaboration.

Engaging and Educating Kaimahi on Sustainability

To embed sustainability into our workplace culture, RNZ:

  • Conducts regular engagement surveys to understand staff priorities and drive meaningful action.
  • Provides sustainability updates through fortnightly internal communications and a dedicated internal webpage.
  • Encourages staff participation in environmental initiatives.

A Planet-Positive Future

RNZ is continuously evolving its approach to sustainability, guided by scientific research, industry best practices, and the voices of our kaimahi. Our goal is not only to reduce harm but to actively contribute to a more sustainable and equitable future.
