Brazilian Grammy-nominee Bebel Gilberto, the daughter of renowned singer João Gilberto, has forged her own distinctive, laid-back style of bossa nova.
Bebel first appeared on a record at age seven with her mother singer Miucha, and then performed at Carnegie Hall two years later. In 2015 her song 'Tudo' was nominated in the Best Brazilian song category at the Latin Grammy Awards.
Gilberto opens her WOMAD set with ‘Sunshine’ and continues on to mix classic bossa with less obvious song choices (Neil Young’s ‘Harvest Moon’), while her fine trio maintain a subtle, simmering energy.
