Singer Nano Stern was once described by the iconic 60's American folk singer Joan Baez as “the best young Chilean songwriter of his generation".
Coming from Chile with its volatile history, Nano’s childhood memories hark back to a movement lead by musical activists resisting General Pinochet’s dictatorship of Chile between 1973 and 1990.
Folk heroes like Victor Jara, who was killed during the dictatorship, continue to inspire Nano’s creativity and message. Stern is quoted as saying: “I am extremely respectful of the tradition. It is an enormous gift we received from the people of the past.”
A respectable and appreciative crowd filled the Dell Stage area on Saturday 17 March to witness the charismatic Chilean musician, Nano Stern deliver his songs with both humour and heart.
Nano Stern was engineered and produced by Steve Burridge for RNZ Music.
