London-born composer Sally Beamish (b. 1956) has spent the last 30 years living in Scotland. Her highly evocative music is often inspired by Scottish culture and historic events.
'Seavaigers' is a double concerto for fiddle and Scottish harp, written in 2011. 'Lament' is its second movement, a haunting and beautifully woven tribute to the many seafarers who have perished on the water.
James Crabb says that the composer has a particular talent for creating atmospheric melodies and soundscapes that are original, but with an undeniable Scottish flavour.
