Isang Yun (Yun Isang in Korean name order) was a South Korean composer with an extraordinary life. He was imprisoned by the Japanese during World War II. In 1967, while working in Germany, where his composing career was mostly based, he was kidnapped by the South Korean secret service, taken back to Korea, imprisoned and tortured.

According to Grove Music Online, "Yun's fundamental aim as a composer was to develop Korean music through Western means, combining East Asian performing practice with European instruments, and expressing an Asian imagination in contemporary Western musical terms."

He wrote this Piano Trio in the period 1972-75.
