Dave Angus – the source of the some of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra’s deepest notes – is about to retire.

The NZSO contra-bassoonist’s final concerts are this weekend, playing the ultra-low part in Shostakovich’s 10th Symphony.

But (as Bryan Crump discovered recently) while his days of plumbing sonic depths might be over, Dave's days of tinkering with rumbling machines are only just beginning.
