    Falak: The voice of destiny

    Tajikistan is occupied for the most part by the Pamirs, the mountains of North-Afghanistan described as the 'roof of the world'. "Falak" means 'the vault of the sky' or 'destiny' and the vocal style of these songs suit the concept perfectly: long-held notes with rock-firm intonation, ending in a hard shake and a dying fall (Topic Records TSCD932D)
