    A programme from 2005 marking the 90th anniversary of the birth on 12th December of Francis Albert Sinatra (1915-1988), one of the great American vocalists of the century. The programme traces his roots in Hoboken, NJ and his early discovery by bandleader Harry James, to his breakthrough appeal to the "bobby soxers" as the vocalist with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra in the 1940s, and his second "golden era" with Capitol Records in the 1950s, where his recordings with Nelson Riddle and Billy May have achieved legendary status (NPR)

    Ghazal

    Lost Songs of the Silk Road (Persian & Indian Improvisations)

    The classical music traditions of Iran and India both feature complex scales and rhythms that demand a lifetime of study. However, they are highly compatible with each other in terms of emphasis, similarity in ornamentation and improvisation

    Ghazal is a live recording which is the outcome of a collaboration between the Indian musicians Shujaat Khan (sitar), Swapan Chaudhuri (tabla) and the Iranian kamancheh player Keyhan Kalhor. The musicians had two forty minute rehearsals in which they worked out which modes or scales they had in common (Shanachie 64096)
