8:00 Musicology, The Many Sides of Prince

Two programmes written and produced by Sam Wicks and presented by Shane Lust, a long time Prince devotee and archivist

Over a 30-year career, singer, songwriter, record producer and multi-instrumentalist Prince Rogers Nelson has employed his prodigious musical output to challenge musical, racial and sexual conventions.

Musicology explores Prince's multifaceted career, his imposing body of recordings and the themes that have emerged from his work. With a diverse range of familiar and rare Prince recordings from his 1978 debut For You to 3121, the programmes look at the influences that have shaped Prince and how he has synthesised an unlikely mix of black and white music into a sound that is distinctly his own (1) (RNZ)
