    (1) Tane & the Kiwi

According to Maori myth, a long time ago New Zealand's birds were very different, particularly the kiwi, who lived in the treetops and had brightly coloured feathers. A plague of insects threatens to destroy the forest and Tane Mahuta, Lord of the Forest enlists the birds' help. Only Kiwi is willing to live on the dark forest floor to help eat the insects

Like Peter and the Wolf, the story is told in music. But instead of wolves and grouchy grandfathers, the characters here are portrayed by the birds of Aotearoa, each represented by a different orchestral instrument
