2:00 PM. Global Sounds
Indigenous music from around the world
A group effort: music making by many from around the world
A recent study by Chorus America found that singing in a choir is strongly correlated with qualities that are associated with success through life (Source: www.chorusamerica.org). Whether you agree with that or not, there's no doubt that there's something special about being part of a large group of music makers
Today's programme is a selection of vocal and instrumental music from around the world that's intended to be performed in a group. It includes music for a Ukrainian bandurist chorus, a drumming ensemble, American gospel choirs, a Chinese pipa orchestra and some Tibetan Buddhist chanting (Intuition INT 3287-2; Sony 88697 22592; Airmail Music SA 141149; Smithsonian Folkways Recordings SFW CD 40194; Ocora C 560204; Channel of China CCS SA 80607)
