El Tanbura is a collective of veteran Egyptian musicians, singers, fishermen and Sufi philosophers who've made it their mission to revive the music that used to be played in the cafes and smoking dens of Port Said before electronic keyboards took over. Central to the band's music is the sound of the simsimiyya, an ancient lyre dating back to the time of the Pharaohs (30IPS FOB1869)
