Four programmes
(1) Salman Rushdie
Salman Rushdie discusses Midnight's Children. The book is surrealist fiction that deals with the history of India from 1910 to the declaration of emergency in 1976 through the eyes (and nose) of Saleem Sinai, born on the strike of midnight August 15 1947. He is one of 1001 children born that midnight, each of them endowed with an extraordinary talent.
Writer and critic Malcolm Bradbury hailed Midnight's Children (in The Modern British Novel penguin, 1994) "a new start for the late-twentieth-century novel" (BBC)
