    Chinese classical music for pipa

Today in Global Sounds, we play music for pipa, the four-stringed, pear-shaped, traditional Chinese lute. Writers from the Tang dynasty, a golden age for the instrument, described its extensive palette of sounds as ranging from "delicate and subtle, like the pillow talk of newlyweds" to "broad and expansive, like a million brave soldiers on horseback, with the clashing of iron and shouting"!

Lingling Yu plays a selection of classical compositions for solo pipa (Felmay FY8143)
