Sir Mark Elder
"An orchestra that can't sing can't really communicate the soul of the music!"
Sir Mark's first love was opera. For 14 years he was Music Director of English National Opera, creating the so-called 'powerhouse' era with David Poutney and Peter Jonas. Currently his name is in lights again as the Music Director who's revived the fortunes of the venerable Hallé Orchestra in Manchester. Mark Elder is in conversation with Mairi Nicolson of ABC Classic FM (ABC)
