Rise & Shine - Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars

Truly a story of success in the face of adversity, the Refugee All Stars is a band from Sierra Leone which was formed by a group of refugees displaced to Guinea during the Sierra Leone civil war in the 1990s. While their debut album, Living like a refugee, described what life was like for them in the camps, this second album Rise & Shine finds the group getting on with rebuilding their lives. The songs address more general concerns, although the past is not forgotten:

"We always intend to write songs about peace and love because we always remember our past," they say. "We came from a war-torn country. That's why we never cease to remind people in our music to always remain in peace." (Cumbancha CMB-CD-18)
