12:00 AM. Music Through the Night
Inspector Morse
Real ale and opera are the main consolations for Inspector Morse in ITV's multi-layered series. Along with literary allusions and the exploitation of Oxford's architectural heritage, the Morse programmes make great capital from the clever use of classical music. From the theme music, which spells out, in morse code, the name of the show's central character: Morse, to the character's participation in an amateur choir. Morse fan the late Adrienne Simpson looked at the integrated use of music in the long running whodunnit.

5:00 PM. The New Jazz Archive
Hosted by long-time jazz composer and musician, Jeff Haas, The New Jazz Archive is a series exploring the stories and sounds of jazz's place in American life.
The life and music of swing anti-hero Artie Shaw. Biographer Tom Nolan talks about Artie's reluctant rise to stardom during the 1930s and dissects his much publicised rivalry with Benny Goodman. And we'll take a look at Artie's abrupt, Shakespearean exit from the music business in the 1950s and explore what made Artie Shaw one of the most innovative and complex voices of the swing era (American Public Radio)
