Fiji's police commissioner, Andrew Hughes, who accompanied the prime minister, Laisenia Qarase, for his talks in Wellington with Commodore Bainimarama, has gone on leave to Australia .
Mr Hughes told Radio Legend from Wellington that he had pending leave and was taking it to go for a break in Australia .
He said he expects to return to Fiji sometime next month.
The deputy police commissioner, Moses Driver, will be acting commissioner.
Although Mr Hughes accompanied the prime minister to Wellington , Mr Qarase did not know of the leave.
Mr Qarase told Radio Legend he will be checking with the home affairs ministry.
