Kiribati hopes to produce a plan of action for small atoll nations dealing with climate change following positive international support at its summit in Tarawa last week.
UN agencies, non government groups and leaders from Tuvalu, Tokelau, Fiji and Kiribati gathered in the Kiribati capital for discussions on the climate change issues faced by small atoll nations.
The Kiribati Foreign Affairs Secretary Akka Rimon says the three day meeting has created a platform for more international partnership on climate induced migration and climate adaption.
"We also recognise from the discussions the need to develop training , education, labour mobility as forms of adaptation to climate change but at the same time contributions to our economic growth and our nation building process."
Ms Rimon says the results of the summit show the international community Kiribati is not sitting back and waiting for others to take the lead on climate change issues.
