The Fiji women's sevens team have built on their solid showing at the Commonwealth Games, finishing a season best sixth at the latest World Series tournament in Japan.

The Fijiana topped their pool at the Kitakyushu Sevens, despite a first up defeat by Canada.

Wins against Russia and England put them into the Cup quarter finals for the first time this season, where they were outclassed 31-7 by Australia.

A narrow victory over China set up a rematch against Russia in the playoff for fifth place, with the Russians winning 30-7 to avenge their defeat in pool play.

The Fijiana remain 10th on the World Series standings, with the next event in Langford, Canada in three weeks.
