The Member of Parliament for West Kwaio constituency in Solomon Islands, Peter Tom, has died.
Mr Tom, who has been ill for some time, died last night.
He was first elected to parliament in 2006 and was re-elected in 2010.
He served as the Minister for Women, Youth and Children's Affairs from 2011 to 2014.
According to the Parliament website, Peter Tom was a church pastor prior to entering politics and his formal education ended after primary school.
Mr Tom was born in 1964 and his home village is Kwailatutu in Malaita Province.
A statement from the Office of the Prime Minister is expected later today.
