2:10 Famous Race - Keith Quinn - Sunday marks the 40th anniversary of one of the greatest middle distance races of all time. Christchurch, 1974 - The 1500 metre race of the Commonwealth Games.  There were great expecations on New Zealanders John Walker and Rod Dixon as they lined up on the track with top runners from Britain, Australia and a Tanzanian runner named Filbert Bayi.
Bayi still holds the Commonwealth record for that three-and-three-quarter lap race...  three minutes 32.16 seconds. .
That race changed the way the runners would approach the 1500 race forever. Instead of pacing themselves for a big finish. Sports Commentator Keith Quinn there and watched sporting history unfold on the track at the Commonwealth games.
