1:20 Link between handgun ownership and American toddler deaths
New research has found a link between the increase in the number of handguns in American homes and firearm-related deaths of toddlers.
Kiwi researcher Dr Kate Prickett worked with US academics on a project tracking the connection between gun ownership and mortality of kids between 1-5 years old, over a 40 year period.
Dr Prickett is a senior lecturer at Victoria University, though the work was one while she was at the University of Waikato and the University of Chicago. She joins us to explain the findings.

On Friday our Critter of the Week was the vegetable cicada - a fascinating fungus that attacks and infects cicadas and insects.
We were contacted by US Professor, who's lab at the University of Connecticut studies the fungus and the cicadas themselves. She was hoping listeners could advise her where to find some fresh species.
