1:20 We need more vitamin c the more we weigh!

We all know it's important we chow down an orange or apple every now and then to get the vitamin C we need, but some people need more than others.

Research has told us that people who are overweight need more vitamin C to optimise their immune system, but we've never known exactly how much.

A new study co-authored by an Otago University researcher has now solved that mystery.

University of Otago associate professor Anitra Carr talks to Jesse.

1:30 Handyman dad builds units to monitor class air quality

It's a well known fact that ventilation in the classroom impacts children's health, and in the age of Covid, it's become an even bigger concern.

Antitipating this, Eastbourne father of three Oliver Seiler decided to take matters into his own hands to ensure there was a way to moniter the air quality at school for his kids and their classmates.

He created units for Muritai School's 22 classrooms, staffroom, and library, which alert the kids and teacher when it's time to open up the windows and let some air in. He talks to Jesse.

Today's Bookmarks guest is celebrating his 25th anniversary on New Zealand's coffee scene.

Bernard Smith started Vivace (Viv-arch-ay) Espresso roastery and cafe in Christchurch in 1997 just when the industry was starting to blossom into the national obsession it is today.

The company is now one of the only remaining locally-owned coffee businesses still operating.

Bernard talks to Jesse about why that is and shares what he enjoys reading, watching and listening to in his down time.
