1.15 Making cities more 'spongey' to cope with future deluges

Before Auckland flooded badly on Friday evening University of Auckland Urban Planning Senior Lecturer Timothy Welch wrote about the idea of 'spongey cities' to cope with increased climate change rainfall.

The idea is that instead of building bigger and better pipes to deal with the extra water, the approach should be more about making areas more porous and planting more trees.

Timothy talks to Jesse about the sponge city concept and how much of a difference some simple steps could make.

2:30 Expert feature: Camping

With the long weekend coming up many of you will be readying your sleeping bags and tents for a camping trip.

There are so many stunning spots to go camping all over the country and there's no better way to get out of the city and make some memories with family or some mates.

Getting organised, however, is less fun. There's always the fear you're forgetting something essential or you don't have the right equipment or you haven't found the right spot.

Camping expert Jono Collins, founder of NZ Camping Adventures, shares his tips with Jesse. If you have any questions you can text 2101 or email jesse@rnz.co.nz.

Professor Cawley talks about the cost and consequences of unhealthy weight and what might work to prevent or reduce the epidemic of obesity.

John Cawley, professor in the Department of Policy Analysis and Management in the College of Human Ecology, will be the new director of the Cornell in Washington program starting July 1.
