1:35 Pub comes to the rescue when the town runs dry!

Earlier this month the water ran dry in Kaitangata in South Otago for almost an entire day.

This of course meant the shops, schools, cafes, and the local pool had to close. But at least the pub was left standing!

A bit of ingenuity kept the water running at the Crescent Bar & Grill, meaning it was one of the only public spaces allowed to open on the day.

For Bookmarks today we're joined by playwright, author and actor Geoffrey Clendon.

He's had a long career in the performing arts world where he started life as an actor in the 1980s working with major theatre companies in Australia and New Zealand as well as in film and television.

After a stint in teaching he's coming back to the stage, this time though he's stepping behind the scenes as the writer and director of his own play, 'Rangitoto'.

It's playing at the PumpHouse Theatre in Takapuna from the 23rd of Feb to the 5th of March, and on Waiheke from the 9th to the 12th of March.
