1:15 Hawkes Bay update with civil defence controller

Supplies and connectivity are slowly being returned to Hawke's Bay, though around 31,000 people in Napier are still without power.

The region has suffered incomprehensible damage in the wake of Cyclone Gabrielle.

Also, sadly, another death has been recorded in Hawke's Bay today as well, bringing the total toll to 7.

1900 people in the region are currently staying in evacuation centres.

1:25 Ngāti Kahungunu network helping those in need across the region

Ngāti Kahungunu has been organising the iwi response up and down the east coast.

Marae have been flooded in Omahu, Bridge Pā and Wairoa and many other areas.

Across the network, they're providing food, shelter and support.

1.30 Vector Auckland still connecting homes across the region

There is still a number of homes in the Auckland region who have not had their power restored after cyclone Gabrielle hit the area earlier this week.

Vets have been rushed off their feet helping to ensure the welfare of live stock and pets throughout the Hawkes Bay region.

Vet Services Hawke's Bay has practices in Napier, Hastings and Waipukurau. The general manager Brendan James talks to Jesse.

1.45 Hastings racecourse turned into an animal shelter

The Hastings racecourse has turned into a shelter for misplaced pets, horses and live stock.

Helping You Help Animals (HUHA) is co-ordinating the effort and asking for donations to help them keep the animals coming to them safe and comfortable.

HUHA founder Carolyn Press-McKenzie talks to Jesse about they mostly need.
