1:15 Could canola oil be the fuel to keep the country running in an emergency?
As an island nation with a complete dependence on fuel imports, what would happen to us if a global disaster cut off our fuel supply?
We have just 21 days of diesel in the country at any time, so there are major implications for our food production and supply.
However a new study published in the international journal 'Risk Analysis' suggests biofuel from locally grown canola could be an answer.
Professor Nick Wilson of the University of Otago, Wellington co-authored this study and he's with us now.
1:25 Sea lion protection under threat in new commercial fishing net changes
New Zealand sea lions are one of the rarest sea lion species in the world and are only found here in Aotearoa.
With a population of around 12,000 - their conservation status is listed as Nationally Vulnerable.
Despite this, the Fisheries Minister has scrapped official limits on the number of sea lion deaths through commercial fishing nets.
So what will this reduced protection mean for the species?
