Dame Kiri Te Kanawa says she's thrilled and honoured that Auckland's former ASB Theatre has been named after her, almost 30 years after she officially opened the building.
This morning a cultural blessing was held to officially rename the venue the Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre, to recognise her outstanding contribution to music and New Zealand.
Tomorrow night a gala event will be held with the internationally renowned soprano as the guest of honour to mark the official renaming of the theatre.
