For the first time ever, Parliament is issuing summonses to the Solicitor-General, the Director-General of Health and the Police Commissioner, seeking all legal advice on the lockdown.
The Epidemic Response Committee Chair Simon Bridges says New Zealanders have given up their freedoms, and they deserve to know the legal basis for that.
He says if the advice is not handed over, it's clear the government is not confident it followed the law.
But the Prime Minister says she has been assured there were no gaps in the government's enforcement powers.
