A proposed alternative to the emissions trading scheme for farmers has been called a lemon by Greenpeace and a bit like swallowing a rat by Federated Farmers.
The proposal was developed by agriculture sector group He Waka Eke Noa in a bid to avoid being forced into the emissions trading scheme in 2025.
Those in the sector say the proposal shows they are taking climate change seriously and happy to play their part.
