A scathing report has flagged concerns about prisoners' rights in jails around the country.
Almost a third of inmates have been separated from others for extended periods of time, with some spending years in solitary confinement.
The independent Office of the Inspectorate says the isolation and segregation need "the closest of scrutiny by oversight agencies".
Some prisoners had little to see and do while in solitary confinement and left for too long, that can effect their health and wellbeing. Rachel Graham has the story.
