Recognized as one of Aotearoa's favourite Japanese restaurants, ULO's kitchen remains very much a whanau affair since opening in 2020.

After fleeing Fukushima following the 2011 tsunami, the Shirai's finally found their way to Whaingaroa through a shared love of surfing 6 years later.

Artist and designer Kyoko Shirai talks to Kara and Mark about her family's unique journey to opening ULO's Kitchen and their relationship with Raglan.
