12:10 New Justice Aidan Warren

Last year saw the Waitangi Tribunal finding that Cabinet breached the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in its decisions around the vaccine rollout. Ongoing debate around the role of the treaty is in the future of legislation in Aotearoa has been front and centre during the pandemic. So what role does the treaty play in the courts in 2022?

Judge Aidan Warren is a newly appointed Judge to the Māori Land Court. He was a lawyer for 21 years at McCaw Lewis Chapman and had a lifelong ambition to be a lawyer. An aspiration, ignited by his Koro, to become a lawyer, and fueled by his competitive friends at Te Aute College, was fulfilled with his official swearing in to the Māori Land Court in October last year, and a informal ceremony laced with plaudits held at his school at Te Aute College last month.
