12:10 Waka Ama team prepares for World Championships

The World Championships will be held in the UK in August and coach Kiwi Campbell is starting to prepare her team to defend their world title. Campbell was herself a very successful competitor at national and international level and says her paddlers will be up against strong competition from Tahiti and Europe.

Ngā Hau e Whā o Tāwhirimātea is a practical guide to culturally responsive teaching practice in the tertiary sector is designed to support kaiako (teachers) to reconfigure the teacher/learner dynamic and question old habits, with a view to embracing kaupapa Māori and diversity. One of the authors is Dr Matiu Ratima.

12:45 Te Reo Maori, haka and poi in the USA

The founder and CEO of Learn Maori Abroad, Amelia Butler, lives in Los Angeles and she also heads the performance group Nga Anahera Maori. Her online Te Reo Maori classes started in 2018 with ten students in New York and has since expanded to include students across the USA, Vietnam, Europe, the Middle East and Canada. She has also taught haka as part of corporate events and is once again starting her in-person performance classes with a poi workshop.
