Hangi Master Rewi Spraggon is building new community hangi pits on Mangere Mountain in Auckland. It's part of his approach to retain the tikanga of hangi-making, as well as the fine traditions of kai, and feeding those who most need it. Rewi Spraggon says 'the summit' of cooking is the preparation and sharing of food at tangi and he says at times he's been providing 1500 meals a week to homeless people.
