Correlation between heavy TV households and pre-schoolers' development

From Midday Report, 12:17 pm on 15 June 2021

Researchers have found an association between households that watch lots of TV, or eat meals in front of it, and the cognitive development of pre-schoolers. Two recent studies as part of the Growing Up in New Zealand series looked at how much TV pre-schoolers were watching, and how it impacted on their executive functions, inattention and hyperactivity. Perlina Lau spoke to University of Auckland Doctoral Researcher in the School of Psychology Maria Corkin about the findings.
