Breast cancers missed due to Covid

It's estimated 133 women have no idea they have breast cancer right now - with many missing their mammograms due to the recent covid lockdowns - and putting the systems back a decade.

Analysis by the Breast Cancer Foundation shows the number of undetected cases is expected to grow as both BreastScreen Aotearoa and private clinics deal with the fallout of extended lockdowns.

Ah-Leen Rayner, chief executive of Breast Cancer Foundation NZ, told Māni Dunlop urgent action was needed.
