The police admit they don't understand the behaviour of young drivers who flee and say they're willing to consider trialling a no pursuit policy. It's a U-turn from police who've previously said their pursuit policy is fit for purpose. In 2017 and 2018 more than 980 young drivers were involved in chases - four of those drivers crashed and died. That doesn't include the three teenagers who died in Christchurch in January when their stolen car hit a tree and burst into flames. The Childrens Commissioner Judge Andrew Becroft has been lobbying for police to stop chasing young drivers. He speaks to Susie Ferguson.
