Some public health experts say the hastily-improvised alert level system needs to be updated to eliminate the virus a second time.
The University of Otago's Professor Nick Wilson says it's too early for Auckland to move down levels.
He says mask use should be expanded to schools, offices and shops, which would speed the progress down the Alert Levels.
Prof Wilson told me that as the science changes, as new evidence emerges, the alert levels should be tweaked to reflect that.
