The Green Party says new gun laws aimed at reducing gang crime could disproportionately affect Māori.
Those with a history - or just a connection - to organised crime could soon be subjected to a Firearms Prohibition Order.
This would stop those people from living at - or even visiting - a property where firearms are kept.
And breaching it could mean up to seven years in prison.
Green Party MP Golriz Ghahraman told RNZ reporter Meriana Johnson that the proposed bill could affect people with no criminal convictions.
