The police officer wounded when Constable Matthew Hunt was fatally shot, has described finding himself in a 'cat and mouse' game with the gunman. Eli Epiha is on trial in the High Court in Auckland where he admits murdering Hunt and wounding David Goldfinch, but denies he was trying to kill Goldfinch. In the witness box yesterday Constable Goldfinch described following a car down a street in Massey, then finding it crashed amid smoke and debris. Goldfinch says he got out, expecting he'd need to give first aid to the driver.
