Emergency response to West Coast storm ramping up

From Morning Report, 6:15 am on 3 February 2022

State Highway 6 south of Fox Glacier is closed due to flooding on the West Coast of Te Waipounamu - the South Island.

There's also minor flooding between Hokitika and Fox Glacier, and Westport to Mokihinu.

Intense rain from overnight has eased, but continues to fall.

MetService forecasts the rain to continue today, with heavy falls tomorrow.

A state of emergency has already been declared in Buller, giving Civil Defence controllers more power to take action.
