US president Joe Biden has tested positive for Covid-19. The White House physician said Biden has some fatigue, a runny nose and a dry cough.
Biden is 79 years old. He has been twice vaccinated, and twice boosted.
He has begun a course of the antiviral pill Paxlovid, which was recently made available in New Zealand for 400,000 people at risk of severe illness from Covid-19.
CNN medical analyst Dr Leana Wen said Biden was likely to make a full recovery.
She said Biden most likey had the BA.5 variant, which leads to more mild symptoms, especially for people who are vaccinated or have already had Covid-19.
