Big clean up needed in Coromandel after weather hit

People across the country are waking up discover the impact of heavy rain on Tuesday morning. Weather warnings have now lifted across Northland, Auckland, but the Bay of Plenty isn't expected to escape that until later this morning.

MetService meteorologist Lewis Ferris says the outlook for the rest of the week isn't looking much better. In Northland, the clean up will begin this morning after the wild weather caused flooding and power outages.

The roads are now clear and power is back on.

There are road closures in other parts of the North Island - in the Bay of Plenty, aslip is blocking State Highway 33 east of Rotorua, between Allport Road and Maniatutu Road. It is likely to be closed all day.

Many residents across the Coromandel are cut off this morning. Due to multiple slips, State Highway 25 is closed between Coromandel and Te Rerenga, Kuaotunu to Wharekaho, Hikuai Settlement Road and Tairua, and Waihi and Whiritoa.
